Every lost lift window pushes energisation back and leaves crews standing. On a hyperscale build where halls are waiting for power, that delay and the safety risk land on your schedule.
USP&E Helps You Plan Campus Crane Pads and Heavy Lifts
We know how crowded a campus gets once halls, trenches and power yards are all under construction at once. With 150+ power projects in 45+ countries and 25,000 MW contracted since 2002, USP&E puts 400+ engineers and project managers behind you; they plan haul routes, crane pads and lift windows so turbine packages and transformers reach their foundations on time. You get ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified quality and safety systems, with FCPA and OFAC compliance on every contract. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, not a broker.
The aim is simple: every heavy package has a proven route, a proven crane position and a booked window, and nothing else on site gets in the way on the day.
List Every Heavy Package and Its Route
Start your planning with a heavy-lift register. List every turbine package, generator, transformer and large skid that must reach the power yard, with dimensions, weights from the supplier, lift points and the order they arrive in.
Walk the route from your site gate to each foundation. Check gradients, turning circles, overhead lines, gate widths and any temporary structures. A route that works for concrete trucks may not work for a long, heavy trailer.
Fix the route on your site logistics plan and protect it, because you will need it for every delivery. Laydown areas, cabins and spoil heaps have a habit of creeping onto haul roads during a busy build.
Design Haul Roads and Crane Pads From Ground Data
Haul roads and crane pads should be designed from geotechnical data, not from what looks firm on a dry day. Ask your civil designer to check bearing capacity for the trailer axle loads and the crane outrigger loads, including after rain.
Map buried services under the route and the crane footprint. New cable trenches, gas lines and drainage runs are often backfilled loosely, and an outrigger over a soft trench is a serious hazard.
Keep crane pads in the permanent layout. Your gas turbine generators will need major maintenance lifts later, and an access road that disappears under landscaping turns a planned outage into a civil project.
Book Lift Windows and Keep Access for Later Blocks
Book each lift window in your construction schedule and clear the area of scaffolds, open trenches and other crews. Agree weather limits for the crane and a fallback date before the trailer leaves the port.
Phase early capacity with the same discipline. A remanufactured GE Frame 6B or verified used/new gas turbines may arrive first, with natural gas engines/stations supporting construction loads, and each delivery you receive should follow the register.
Leave access for growth. Later AI gas turbines, hyperscale generators and gas turbines for compute will need the same route, and blocks such as the New USP&E FX-45 45MW Modular Gas Turbine for the Hyperscale Data Center sector in the USA are planned by a hyperscale EPC/O&M team that keeps crane positions and haul roads open for every phase.
Global Offices Behind Your Data Centre Campus Programme
Your team wants answers in its own time zone. USP&E’s offices in Colorado Springs (1755 Telstar Dr, Suite 300) and Knoxville (800 S Gay St, Suite 700) lead your campus gas reception and GT build conversations in the US, from the first data request to the site visit, so questions about fuel, interconnection and delivery are answered by people who can be on site.
The wider network carries the heavy lifting for gas reception skids, gas turbine generators and electrical yards: London (162-168 Regent Street) for structuring and finance, Johannesburg (22 Kildoon Rd, Bryanston) for engineering and project controls, Cape Town (31 Brickfield Road, Woodstock) for design and commissioning support, and Wuxi, China (No. 1, Ningzhou Road, Wuxi) for China supply chain and manufacturing.
For campus heavy lifts, Colorado Springs and Knoxville project engineers can walk your haul route and crane positions with the logistics lead before each package leaves the port. Regions served: USA | AFRICA | UK | UAE | CHINA. USP&E’s reach covers 150+ power projects in 45+ countries and 25,000 MW contracted since 2002, and the company is ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified.
What USP&E Has Delivered for Data Centre Campus Buyers
You want proof that USP&E has moved and set gas turbine packages for demanding US campus builds. These projects show that record.
- USP&E has refurbished seven GE Frame 6B gas turbines to zero hours in-house for major US hyperscale data-centre developers.
- MAN redeployment, Iraq: USP&E moved a stranded 32 MW MAN plant, plus two surplus MAN generators, across four countries to an industrial buyer facing 12 to 18 month lead times for new engines. Read the case study.
- NEOM, Saudi Arabia: USP&E supplied three zero-hour Siemens SGT-400 gas turbines as the single technical and commercial interface, and the client reported savings of over $10 million. Read the case study.
HowTo: Plan Crane Pads and Heavy Lifts for Campus GTs
Your 3-step plan: 1. Share site logistics plans, soil data and delivery schedules under NDA. 2. Receive a heavy-lift register, route check and crane pad brief. 3. Lift on booked windows, then hand access records into O&M.
- List every heavy package that must reach the power yard, with its dimensions and lift points.
- Design haul roads, turning circles and crane pads from geotechnical data, not from assumptions.
- Fix lift windows in the construction schedule so trenches, scaffolds and other crews are clear.
- Protect buried cables and pipes under the haul route and crane outriggers.
- Keep crane access open for later blocks and major maintenance lifts.
- Hand the lift plan, pad records and access drawings into O&M.
FAQ: Campus Crane Pad Heavy Lift GT Build
Why do campus builds need a heavy-lift register?
USP&E uses a heavy-lift register so every turbine package, transformer and large skid has a known weight, route, crane position and window. Your logistics team then plans around the heaviest loads instead of finding problems on delivery day, when delays are most expensive.
What can go wrong on a haul road?
USP&E sees soft ground after rain, tight turning circles, overhead lines and loosely backfilled trenches as the common problems. Any of them can stop a trailer or damage a package. Your route check should cover the full path from the site gate to each foundation.
Should crane pads stay after construction?
USP&E recommends keeping crane pads and access roads in the permanent layout. Your turbines will need major maintenance lifts over their working life. Removing access during landscaping means a later outage needs new civil works before the crane can even arrive.
How are buried services protected during lifts?
USP&E maps every buried cable, pipe and drain under the haul route and crane footprint, then keeps outriggers and heavy axles off soft backfill or adds spreader mats where needed. Your as-built drawings must be current for this to work on a busy campus.
Where are USP&E’s offices that support campus builds?
USP&E leads US campus build work from Colorado Springs and Knoxville, close to your site teams. London structures contracts and finance, Johannesburg and Cape Town add field EPC depth, and Wuxi supports China manufacturing and supply. All offices share your project file.
Has USP&E delivered gas turbine projects like this before?
USP&E has refurbished seven GE Frame 6B gas turbines to zero hours in-house for major US hyperscale data-centre developers. Public case studies also cover NEOM, where USP&E supplied zero-hour gas turbines as the single technical and commercial interface. You can read each case study yourself.
Is USP&E a broker for campus power equipment?
USP&E is not a broker. USP&E engineers, supplies, builds and operates power plants with its own people, so the team that plans your heavy lifts also sets the turbines, commissions them and stays accountable to you once your halls are live.
How fast can USP&E respond on a lift plan?
USP&E can start reviewing your site logistics plan, soil data and delivery schedule as soon as you share them under NDA. Engineers flag route and crane pad risks first, then issue the heavy-lift register, with timing set by data quality and site access.
Get Every Package Onto Its Foundation First Time
Get heavy lifts right and each package lands on its foundation on the booked day. Get them wrong and the first sign is a stuck trailer, a lost window or a near miss. USP&E will help you plan, protect and lift with confidence.
