Aggregate N+1 vs Block-Level N+1
Campus aggregate N+1 can hide shared single points: one fuel header without isolation, one bus without alternate feed, one control network without failover. Block-level N+1 forces designers to ask whether each modular USP&Ean be taken offline without collapsing the halls it serves — and whether the spare USP&Ean pick up load without violating fuel or thermal limits.
Writing Explicit Definitions
Contracts should state whether N+1 means one spare block for the entire campus, one spare per cluster of halls, or concurrent maintenance plus failure scenarios. Ambiguity becomes a dispute during the first major outage. USP&E Extreme Ownership workshops force those definitions before procurement deposits.
Modular Turbines and Spare Strategy
Repeatable modular gas turbine blocks simplify spare parts and operator training. Later phases may standardize on FX-45 — modular, 45 MW-class, 50/60 Hz, slots from 2028 — so the spare strategy converges. Near-term mixed fleets from inventory still need documented spare matrices.
